Inquiry Project: Social Media and Teenage Mental Health

Most teenagers use social media daily. Seeing idealized and beautified posts often leads to the “Fear of Missing Out” (FOMO), a pressing issue worldwide. In the Grade 11 international education project, instructor Ian guided students in exploring the causes and effects of FOMO, connecting it with self-image, identity, social interaction, and comparison. They also learned ways to manage FOMO.
Through thoughtful inquiries, discussions, and reflection, students became more aware of their digital habits and strived for better digital well-being. In future projects, students will work to raise awareness about mental health and promote a more balanced digital life among teens.
